NO TO VAT ON TOLL: Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and Committee on Ways and Means chairman Sen. Ralph G. Recto attend Committee on Ways and Means hearing on the imposition of the value-added tax (VAT) on highway toll, whose implementation is scheduled to push through on Aug. 16. Enrile said he was not in favor of the VAT as this will amount to a “user’s tax” for the use of roads built from public funds and is therefore not subject to additional tax.
