CALLING FOR A MILITARY CODE OF JUSTICE: Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, chair of the Senate Committee on National Defense and Security, talks to Undersecretary Pio Lorenzo F. Batino of the Department of National Defense (DND) after a public hearing on Senate Bill No. 2119, which proposes to establish a military code of justice for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). Saying that the establishment of a military justice system will help deter improper conduct and promote respect for authority and adherence to discipline, Trillanes aired the need for caution in amending the Philippine Coast Guard Act of 2009, “to make sure that all the loopholes in the law are plugged so that it will be more effective for the administration of military justice.” (PRIB Photo by Albert Calvelo /2 June 2014)
