INTERNATIONAL MANGROVE ACTION DAY: Senator Cynthia A. Villar leads the more than 300 participants to the mangrove tree planting activity at the Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Eco-Tourism Area LPPCHEA) in consonance with the International Mangrove Action Day last July 26. In recognizing the importance of mangroves to reduce the impact of typhoon particularly storm surges in coastal areas, she filed Senate Bill 142, (National Mangrove Forest Protection and Preservation Act) and Senate Bill 143 (Act Establishing the Coastal Environment Program). She said Coastal Environment Program seeks to establish reservation areas in all coastal municipalities in the country solely for the preservation, protection, reforestation, afforestation and sustainable development of mangrove forests.
