DISCUSSING THE MRT PROBLEM: Sen. Grace Poe (center), co-chair of the Senate Committee on Public Works, presides over an inquiry on the August 13, 2014 Metro Rail Transit (MRT) mishap when an MRT train derailed and overshot its track at the EDSA-Taft station, causing injuries to at least 30 individuals. Government officials proposed the creation of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), an independent government agency, to inspect and ensure the safety of the country’s land, sea and air transportation.
