EXEMPTING PWDs FROM TAX: Senator Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, chair of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means, conducted a Senate hearing on a proposal to exempt persons with disabilities (PWDs) from the Value Added Tax (VAT) Wednesday, May 15, 2015. Saying that PWDs represent a significant portion of the population but tend to be poorer than their counterparts without disabilities, Angara said he wants to exempt PWDs from the VAT to ensure their full participation in the economic and social activities of their communities.
