INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF SOILS EXHIBIT: Senator Cynthia A. Villar, chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, led the ribbon cutting of the exhibit "Healthy Soils for a Healthy Life" at the Senate. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) declared 2015 as International Year of the Soils to raise awareness on the importance of soils for food security and essential eco-system functions. Locally, the Department of Agriculture, through the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM), is leading the Philippines' participation under the national ‘Save our Soils’ campaign. It encourages all stakeholders to take an active role in soil conservation and management. Also in the photo are Senator Loren Legarda, Senate Secretary Oscar Yabes and Mr. Aries Portugal, Asst.
