A landmark decision: Sen. Pia Cayetano, during Monday’s hybrid plenary session, January 31, 2022, says she was honored to be part of history, to be part of a landmark decision that honors and recognizes the rights of a child, particularly a foundling. The Senate unanimously passed on third and final reading Senate Bill No. 2233 or An Act Promoting the Rights of and Providing Greater Protections to Deserted or Abandoned Children with Unknown Parents, Amending for the Purpose Articles 276 and 277 of the Revised Penal Code and Special Laws, Recognizing their Status as Natural-Born Citizens of the Philippines. “In the days and weeks and years to come, I hope that when we are faced with similar challenges, we're able to set aside politics and make the right decision,” Cayetano said, adding that the passage of the measure “became one of the more exciting parts of my journey as a senator.” (Screen grab/Senate PRIB)
