Robin relates personal interaction with FVR: Sen. Robinhood Padilla during Monday’s plenary session, August 1, 2022, recalls his personal interaction with late President Fidel V. Ramos. Padilla said it was Ramos who was instrumental in his conditional pardon. Padilla was convicted by the Angeles City regional trial court for illegal possession of high-powered firearms in April 1994 and sentenced up to 21 years in prison. In April 1997, then president Ramos granted him a conditional pardon. Padilla, a Muslim convert, also said it was during the Ramos administration when the Final Peace Agreement between the Philippine government and the Moro National Liberation Front or the Jakarta Accord was signed on September 2, 1996. “President FVR could be considered as the Father of Peace in Muslim Mindanao,” Padilla said.
