Maritime Zones Act to end bullying: Sen. Ramon Bong Revilla on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, says Senate Bill No. (SBN) 2492 or the Maritime Zones Act is a matter of public urgency whose consequences are too heavy to be ignored, especially amids threat to the country’s sovereignty. Revilla, principal author of SBN 2492, said he filed the bill “with most profound understaning” on the need to guard the Philippine waters. “While I claim no expertise on the matter, this was born out of an intense fire burning in my heart,” the senator said. While the issue is too political and legal, “it should not intimidate us from doing something, and doing it quickly,” he said. “Let me stress what the experts who helped craft this proposed measure have said: We cannot do only political steps, in the same way that we cannot only take legal actions. We should do both. And we cannot do that if we do not have a strong legal basis. And the bill on Philippine Maritime Zones is not only a good start in putting our foot down, it is hoped to be the beginning of the end of all bullying,” he added. (Voltaire F.
