Concurring with ILO C190: Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros believes that concurring with International Labour Organization Convention No. 190 (ILO C190) or the Convention Concerning the Elimination of Violence and Harassment in the World of Work will help advance women empowerment, increase labor productivity and contribute to peaceful industrial relations. During Tuesday’s hearing, November 28, 2023 of the Committee on Foreign Relations, Hontiveros said the government must continue to work to end violence and harassment in the world of work. “Women should not have to live in silence and fear, and should not have to be forced to choose between being victims of violence or losing livelihood,” Hontiveros pointed out. “The concurrence in ILO C190 will pave the way for key government agencies, employers and different institutions and stakeholders to work together for an environment of a gender-violence and harassment free space for all workers – whether in the public or private sector, or in the formal or informal economy,” she added.
