Estrada urges doctors to remain committed to ethical standards of medical practice: Sen. Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada appeals to medical professionals to reaffirm their commitment to the Hippocratic Oath and reassert their dedication to the highest ethical standards of medical practice. Estrada made the call following the controversial marketing scheme of a pharmaceutical firm, Bell-Kenz, which recruits doctors to prescribe medications that may not necessarily be in the best interest of their patients in exchange for exorbitant commissions and lavish incentives. “It’s probably high time that we come up with legislation similar to the United States, the Anti-Kickback Statute, a criminal law that prohibits the knowing and willful payment of ‘remuneration’ to induce or reward patient referrals or the generation of business involving any item or service payable by the Federal health care programs,” Estrada said in his privilege speech on Monday, April 29, 2024.
