Institutionalizing 4PH program: Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, chairperson of the Committee on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement, seeks to institutionalize Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino (4PH) program, the flagship housing program of the government to address the country’s housing backlog. During the committee’s public hearing Monday, May 20, 2024, Ejercito said he filed Senate Bill No. (SBN) 2409 to institutionalize 4PH. The panel also tried to address the issue of the more than 20,000 households in Lupang Arenda, Taytay, Rizal which covers around 91 hectares. Vicente Barlos, head of Alliance of People’s Organization in Lupang Arenda, said they have been waiting for an issuance of a proclamation which would grant them security of tenure. Ejercito expressed hope that the decision or recommendation of concerned government agencies would hopefully represent the aspirations of the people of Lupang Arenda. “I am hoping that (the proclamation) will be fast-tracked... the committee will just monitor,” Ejercito said.
