Gordon meets with UP law students

Senator Richard J. Gordon (Ind.) is set to speak in a forum organized by students from the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law in Diliman, Quezon City tomorrow (Tuesday).

Gordon will be the guest speaker in the student body's forum "Insights from the Alumni," where an alumnus is invited every month to share his experiences as a law student and while practicing law through public service.

The guest speaker is also expected to talk about his advocacies and to participate in an open forum.

Gordon graduated from the UP College of Law in 1975. He was active in the student council when he was studying law. He ran in the student council elections in 1969, topped the elections and got elected as No. 1 councilor.

He joined the Angara Abello Concepcion Regala & Cruz Law Offices (ACCRALAW) after getting his LLB degree in 1975 and practiced law until 1979.

In 1984 when he was mayor of Olongapo City, Gordon received the outstanding alumnus in Public Administration award.

In 1997, more than a decade later and while serving as chairman of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), Gordon was given the Most Distinguished Alumnus award, which is the highest award given by the UP Alumni Association.

Even after he graduated, Gordon has continued contributing to UP's development. He is the founding Chairman of the UP Alumni Association - Olongapo Chapter and at present, the President of the UP Law Alumni Association.

As a senator, Gordon has remained an active supporter of the university. He partnered the University Student Council (USC) for the renovation and repair of the Vinzons' Hall and donated a new bust of Wenceslao Vinzons.

He also provided P5-million assistance to the UP Alumni Association for the restoration and upgrade of the UP Carillon in time for the celebration of the UP Centennial in 2008.
