PAGASA Modernization Gives Hope to the Future of the Agency - Ejercito

Senator JV Ejercito commends the President's approval of Republic Act No. 10692, or the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Modernization Act of 2015 which shall equip the state weather agency through equipment upgrade, and boost the morale of its personnel through salary hike and trainings.

"We celebrate the approval of the modernization in PAGASA. This gives hope to the future of the agency whose role is crucial in rapidly delivering accurate weather information to the public. The agency's capacity is critical in determining our ability to properly prepare for and handle natural disasters. Such capacity is sought to be enhanced through the establishment of a modernization program for PAGASA, which the law will fulfill," Ejercito said.

Ejercito, who is one of the authors of the law, said that the country has experienced the occurrence of several natural disasters wherein PAGASA gave inaccurate forecasts due to lack of modern and quality equipment. He also explained that aside from the equipment upgrade, another crucial feature of the law is the promotion of personnel development and benefits.

"The modernization will encourage our meteorologists to join the agency because of a higher base pay and reformed benefits which shall include scholarships, among others. This is our move to draw professionalism and commitment to the field," Ejercito said.
