Statement of Sen. Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

We express our appreciation for the life and lessons of Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary.

Let's take this day as an important moment to reflect on his message of non-violence, not just as a specific action, but a way of life.

Violence took the life of a PMA cadet as the most recent victim of hazing. Violence killed thousands of drug suspects and innocent people. Violence led to abuse of women and children. Violence is what comes out of pronouncements in threatening enemies and critics.

Mahatma Gandhi lived a life dedicated to extending tolerance, advancing justice and creating change through what can be called radical love.

Let us renew our commitment to relive his ideals and celebrate the dignity of all human beings by, as Gandhi put it, being the change we want to see in the world.
