List endangered species: Senate Minority Leader Franklin M. Drilon on Monday, January 24, 2022, during the interpellation period on Senate Bill No. 2465 or an Act Strengthening the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Mechanism in the Philippines, amending for the purpose Republic Act No. 9147, suggests the inclusion of a listing of endangered species to be added as an annex to the law. “I suggest we make a reference to the listing so that only plants appearing on the list are considered endangered and the illegal harvest of which is punishable by law. It is the possession of these species which is punished and, therefore, the person that is being prosecuted must know that (example) a rose included there is an endangered specie,” he explained. Sen. Cynthia Villar, sponsor of the measure, said the committee will provide a list of the endangered species in the law, update the annex list in the Wildlife Act of 2001, and describe the process by which they will update the list from time to time.
