Press Release April 30, 2014 Statement of Senator Nancy Binay on Labor Day We salute today the working men and women who make the Philippine economy a fast rising and bright spot in the Asian region. The working Filipina should be part of our country's rising prosperity and progress. Long ago, workers demanded and got an eight-hour workday as well as just wages from their employers. Today, Filipina workers are still fighting for equal opportunities and benefits, and against discrimination and harassment in the workplace. I have filed bills that aim to increase maternity leave benefits; the granting of one-day paid leave every month for pre-natal check-ups; training on women's rights and gender education in the workplace; and expanding the rights of kasambahays. We: the government, the private sector and the labor force are still marching hand in hand now - so that every working Filipino, regardless of sex, education, age, and location can gain and enjoy true protection of their life, rights, dignity, and be paid just wages. |
