CO-SPONSORSHIP SPEECH OF
SENATE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE LOREN LEGARDA

ON SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 946, RECOGNIZING THE ENDURING AMITY AND COOPERATION BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA, AND COMMEMORATING THE 75th ANNIVERSARY OF THEIR DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

11 March 2024

Session Hall, Philippine Senate

Honorable colleagues, I rise today in full support of Resolution No. 946, recognizing the enduring amity and cooperation between the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Korea, and commemorating the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

The year 2024 marks a significant milestone in the longstanding history of friendship and collaboration between our two nations. Since the establishment of bilateral relations on March 3, 1949, the Philippines and South Korea have shared a bond that has only grown stronger over the years. From economic partnerships to cultural exchanges, our countries have worked hand in hand to foster understanding and promote development in various fields.

I am particularly proud to highlight that as a staunch advocate of cultural exchange and education, we were able to establish the Philippine Studies Program at Busan University through my support. Academic exchanges play a crucial role in fostering a deeper understanding of the Philippines and its relationship with other countries.

As we celebrate this momentous occasion, let us reaffirm our commitment to further deepen our diplomatic relations and explore new avenues of cooperation.

I urge all my esteemed colleagues to join me in co-sponsoring this resolution, as we honor the enduring friendship between the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Korea and look forward to many more years of fruitful collaboration.

Thank you.
