Amending Teaching Supplies Allowance Act: Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, introduces amendments to proposed Senate Bill No. (SBN) 1092 which seeks to institutionalize the grant of teaching supplies allowance for public school teachers. Drilon asked Sen. Ramon Bong Revilla Jr., the bill’s sponsor, if he would consider spreading out the proposed increase, beyond P5,000, to 2023 and to 2024 to enable the national coffer to shoulder the additional cost. Revilla agreed to the proposal saying that the government could not afford a drastic increase given the present situation. “In fact the proposal is to increase the cash allowance to P5,000 starting next year from 2021 to 2022 and until 2022 to 2023. So for two school years, the cash allowance will be P5,000. But come school year 2023-2024, it will be raised to P7,500 and P10,000 by school year 2024-2025,” Revilla said. (Screen grab/Senate PRIB)
