Investigate man-made disasters caused by dams: Sen. Imee Marcos urges her colleagues to look into the so-called man-made disasters caused by Angat, Magat and other waterways during the hybrid plenary deliberation on 2021 national budget Wednesday, November 18, 2020. “May I also urge, as stated in my resolution, that we call on the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for failure to maintain the watershed given that the denuded forests were a large part of the catastrophe and further, the illegal mining that occurred in many areas,” Marcos said. She also said the Department of Public Works and Highways needs to be included, saying that the dredging of the Great Cagayan River “has never been undertaken in a whole-hearted and credible manner.” The chairperson of the Committee on Economic Affairs also wants PAGASA to shed light on the perception that it gave no flood warnings whether in the yellow, orange or other categories or even typhoon warnings in Northern and Central Luzon during the onslaught of typhoon Ulysses.
