On the Impact of the Anti-Nuclear Power Treaty: Sen. Imee R. Marcos asks resource persons from the Department of Foreign Affairs how the ratification of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) would impact on the Department of Energy’s apparent interest in developing nuclear power in the Philippines. During the virtual hearing of the Committee on Foreign Relations, Thursday, January 14, 2021, Marcos said the 2021 budget contains allocation for the exploration of nuclear power amounting to P19 billion. Atty. Kristin Margaret Malang of the Office of United Nations and other International Organizations replied that TPNW does not affect the inalienable rights of states to pursue and to research and develop peaceful uses of nuclear energies.
