Comply with the law: Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III asks the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to comply with all the provisions under Republic Act (RA) No. 11229 which provides for the special protection of child passengers in motor vehicles. Pimentel made the request after learning from LTO Chief Edgar Galvante that the LTO has yet to comply with Sec. 9 of RA 11229 requiring the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to conduct a study and recommend to Congress within one year from the effectivity of the law the use of child restraint systems in public utility vehicles such as jeepneys, buses, including school buses, taxis, vans, coasters and all other motor vehicles used for public transport. “The mandate of the law is for them (DOTr-LTO) to submit to Congress their recommendation. I mean you were given time to study, consult and recommend, we are talking about compliance of the law, so comply with the law,” Pimentel said during Tuesday’s virtual hearing of the Committee on Public Services, February 9, 2021.
