Zubiri bats for affordable medicines: Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” F. Zubiri underscores the need for affordable medicines which are “generally out of reach of ordinary citizens.” Zubiri, who attended the virtual public hearing of the Committee on Trade, Commerce and Entrepreneurship, February 16, 2021, said he filed Senate Bill No. 309 to reduce the drug prices in the country. According to Zubiri, the Philippines is one of the countries with the highest cost of medicines. “We live in extraordinary times and now with the pandemic, with a lot of people unemployed…some of our countrymen do not go to the hospital for check-ups not only because they are afraid of contracting COVID-19 but because they really cannot afford to do so anymore. Filipinos have a right to responsible, accessible and affordable health care which drugs and medicines are a part of. We must keep business humane, especially with regards to health,” he said.
