National budget should be implemented well: Sen. Alan Peter S. Cayetano, during Monday’s plenary session December 5, 2022, expresses his support for the proposed P5.268 trillion 2023 national budget after Sen. Sonny Angara, chairperson of the Committee on Finance, presented the bicameral report on the disagreeing provisions of the Senate and the House of Representatives. Cayetano suggested a 5-year plan for the implementation of the budget, saying that a good budget, if not implemented well, is also a problem like corruption, inefficiency, and others. “The oversight committee should be more active, in a sense that we can come together with the minority in all independence, to have a sort of scorecard that we can agree with the administration. This is not propaganda for or against the administration but simply a tool to see what we can expect and what we should expect, and where we can hold them accountable,” Cayetano explained. "I’m hoping that we will be able to help align the budget to the priorities of the president. The success of this budget, the success of this administration is a success of the people,” he added.
