PH policy on clean energy: Sen. JV Ejercito quizzes nominee Raphael Lotilla about the policies that the latter will implement should the Commission on Appointments (CA) approve his appointment as Secretary of the Department of Energy (DOE). During the CA hearing on his Ad Interim Appointment, Wednesday, December 7, 2022, Ejercito asked Lotilla his position on the use of coal as source of energy and how the Marcos administration intends to increase the percentage of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix. “We want to minimize the effect of global warming… It is really a clear and present danger facing the world. So what is the direction of our dear secretary in terms of veering away from the use of coal toward cleaner energy,” Ejercito said. Lotilla said the Energy department is committed to meet the 35 percent target of renewable energy by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040. (Joseph Vidal / Senate PRIB)
