Indigenous Peoples Assembly: Sen. Loren Legarda said to an IP leader who aired his concern over the exploitation of their ancestral domain by local and foreign mining companies, “I understand your concerns regarding the mining operations in your ancestral domains because that is really what I am fighting for and that there are really some laws that defeat the purpose of the IPRA law,”. During the gathering of all the indigenous peoples of Luzon held at the Quezon Hall, Teachers Camp in Baguio City, Sen. Loren Legarda, chair of the Senate Committee on Cultural Communities, assured that she will strengthen the protection of ancestral domain of indigenous peoples by assessing existing laws that protect the environment and the welfare of the country’s IPs which are threatened by mining operations of local and foreign companies.
