Regulatory framework for waste-to-energy technologies in PH: Energy Committee chairman Sen. Win Gatchalian sponsors Monday, September 21, 2020 Senate Bill No. 1789, a measure encouraging the development and use of waste as a feedstock for energy generation through waste-to-energy (WTE) facilities. The proposed “Waste to Energy Act” empowers local government units (LGUs) to adopt WTE as one of several solid waste management treatment options to minimize the volume of garbage for disposals in landfills and protect public health. “If we do not act now, the Philippine garbage crisis is poised to do irreparable damage to the environment and to the health of current and future generations of Filipinos,” Gatchalian said in the hybrid plenary session.
