What to do with PhilHealth?: Sen. Imee Marcos, during Wednesday’s hybrid hearing of the Finance Subcommittee E on the proposed budget of the Governance Commission for Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations, October 7, 2020, asks the agency’s recommendations with regard to Philippine Health Insurance Corp.. GCG chief Samuel Dagpin Jr. told Marcos that as early as 2017, the commission recommended to the President the transfer of the supervision of PhilHealth to the Department of Finance from the Department of Health since it is primarily an insurance business. This recommendation was also submitted to the task force recently created by the President to investigate alleged corruption in PhilHealth. One of the options, Dagpin said, is to disintegrate collections from claims and benefits because of the perceived collusion between the claimants and PhilHealth officials. (Screen grab/Senate PRIB)
