On the Malampaya Status: Senate President Pro-Tempore Ralph Recto, during the hybrid hearing Tuesday, October 13, 2020, on the proposed 2021 budget of the Department of Energy (DOE), inquires into the status of the Malampaya gas field off Palawan. Energy Sec. Alfonso Cusi said Chevron has already sold its 45 percent holdings to Udenna. The consortium is now composed of Udenna, 45 percent; Shell, 45 percent; and PNOC-EC, 10 percent. He said the request for the extension of the service contract, which will expire in 2024, is now being evaluated by the DOE. Regarding its deposits, which he said will go beyond 2027, the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC), which is the mother company, has more than 90 petajoules or unutilized gas which can be withdrawn and supplied to the generation company.
