Prioritize people over profits: Sen. Bong Go, during the hybrid plenary session Monday, November 09, 2020, manifests his full support for Senate Bill No. (SBN) 1877 which seeks to extend and enhance the implementation of the lifeline rate in electricity bills. According to Go, the proposed measure will substantially benefit low-income households and those who cannot afford to pay their electricity bills at full cost. “Many Filipinos have been benefitting from the lifeline rate and it is my position that we extend the period of exempting qualified marginalized end users from the cross-subsidy phaseout. Let us always prioritize our people over profits,” Go said as he manifested his intention to be co-author of SBN 1877. Cross-subsidy is an additional pass-on charges to certain classes of electricity end-users in order to reduce the rates charged to consumers from other classes. (Screen grab/Senate PRIB)
