On RFID: Sen. Nancy Binay raises her concern on the mandatory implementation of the Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) for vehicles during the hybrid plenary deliberations on the proposed 2021 budget of the Department of Transportation Tuesday, November 17, 2020. RFID refers to the cashless payment scheme whereby digital data encoded in the RFID tags are captured by a reader via radio waves. Binay asked transportation officials to explain the imposition of penalty for vehicles without the RFID by December 1. “Just to add, when I travel abroad, there’s always a booth for cash transactions for those renting a car. The concept of totally cashless, I haven’t seen that in other countries,” Binay said. (Screen grab/Senate PRIB)
