On the proposed 2022 DICT budget: Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, during Wednesday’s hybrid plenary deliberations November 17, 2021 on the proposed 2022 national budget, presents the proposed budget of the Department of Information and Communications Technology amounting to P10.565 billion as approved by the Committee on Finance. The Senate version is much higher than the approved budget by the Department of Budget and Management amounting to P6.479 billion, and the agency’s 2021 budget of P8.5 billion. Dela Rosa said the increase in the DICT’s budget covered the National Broadband Program (NBP) which tends to inter-connect Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The senator said the NBP was launched in 2017 and the agency hopes to accelerate the deployment of fiber-optic cables and wireless technology, among others. (Joseph Vidal/Senate PRIB)
