Construct more fish landing centers: Sen. Nancy S. Binay supports the construction of additional community fish landing centers (CFLCs) in all municipalities with coastlines and fishing communities in the Philippines. During Monday’s hybrid hearing December 12, 2022 of the Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform, Binay reminded the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to add the construction of more CFLCs in its 2024 budget proposal, including the construction of fish landing center to market roads. “I would like to ask the BFAR to please include in its 2024 budget the construction of more community fish landing centers projects in several municipalities,” Binay said, adding that the CFLCs will surely help boost the fisherfolk income. Atty. Asis Perez, senior adviser of Tanggol Kalikasan, said the government prioritized the establishment of around 750 fish landing centers in the country based on the number of fisherfolk and the length of municipal coastlines. The construction of CFLCs is a government initiative program to improve conditions at fishing communities with high poverty incidence in different regions and it aims to reduce post-harvest losses. The facility will be opened as a venue for skills training on disaster-resilient fisheries-based livelihood and resource management such as monitoring fish catch and stock assessment.
